Navigate Volume
Open your analysis and select Volume from the feature navigation bar at the top of the page. By default, Volume surfaces prominent concepts from your data. You can then choose which concepts you want to display and adjust how the results are organized.
Volume quantifies the concepts found in your text analysis project. Use it to identify common topics, compare exact and conceptual matches, and understand how much of your data includes a particular idea.
Volume answers questions such as:
What are people discussing most?
How widespread is a particular topic?
Are people expressing the same idea using different language?
Which topics are common, and which are especially distinctive to this text analysis project?

Each row represents a concept identified in your text analysis project. The visualization displays the concept, its prevalence rank, its total matches and a bar showing the balance between exact and conceptual matches. You can sort the results using the column headings.
Concepts
A concept is a meaningful word, phrase, or topic that you can explore in Journey Insights Hub. Select a concept to examine it more closely. You can then review its matches and the records in which it appears.
A + icon beside a concept allows you to add it to your concepts for continued analysis. Concepts that have already been added may appear with their assigned color instead.
Prevalence rank
Prevalence compares how frequently a word or phrase appears in the text analysis project with how frequently it appears in the language more generally. A concept is highly prevalent when it occurs substantially more often in the text analysis project than would typically be expected.
For example, if “app” appears once in every 1,000 uses in general English but 200 times in every 1,000 uses in the dataset, it is highly prevalent, even if it is not the most frequently used word in the text analysis project.
Prevalence rank is different from total matches. Use total matches or match percentage to understand how widely a concept appears in the project, and use prevalence rank to understand how characteristic its language is compared with general usage.
Total matches
Total matches shows how many records contain an exact or conceptual match for the concept. The percentage beside the count shows the share of qualifying records that match the concept. Depending on the visualization settings, this percentage can be calculated using either the currently filtered records or all records in the text analysis project.
A record counts once for the concept, even if the concept is mentioned several times in the same text. Volume therefore measures how widely an idea appears across the data, not the total number of times someone typed a word.
Exact matches
An exact match contains the concept itself, including basic variations such as singular and plural forms. Exact matches are useful when you need to know how often people explicitly use a particular word or phrase.
Conceptual matches
A conceptual match contains closely related language or meaning, even when the exact concept is absent.
Conceptual matching helps capture the broader conversation because people often describe the same experience in different ways. It can also surface relevant language that you may not have thought to search for manually.
The bar divides total matches into exact and conceptual portions. Hover over a bar to see the count and percentage for each match type.
If you need a narrower, search-like result, you can exclude conceptual matches in Configure visualization. For most exploratory analysis, including them provides a more complete view of the topic.
