Not every respondent needs to see every question. With logic and branching, you can create surveys that adapt based on the answers people provide. For example, if someone gives a low satisfaction score, you can display a follow-up question asking what went wrong.
1. Creating a logic rule
Open your survey and select the Logic tab.
Click New Rule in the top-right corner.
Under IF, select the question that should trigger the rule.
Choose the condition you want to apply, such as a specific answer or rating.
Under THEN, click Select an action and choose what should happen when the condition is met.
Click Save to save your rule.
You can use the toggle next to the rule to enable or disable it.
2. Showing or hiding questions
You can use conditional logic to display follow-up questions only when they're relevant.
For example:
Question: "How satisfied are you with your experience?"
If the respondent selects a rating of 1 or 2, you might want to display:
"What could we have done better?"
To set this up, create a rule using the satisfaction question as the condition and choose the appropriate visibility action for your follow-up question.
This allows you to collect more detailed feedback without asking every respondent unnecessary questions.
3. Adding multiple conditions
You can make your logic more specific by combining conditions.
Open the rule you want to edit.
Click Add Condition.
Select another question and define its condition.
Review the IF and AND conditions.
Click Save.
For example, you could display a follow-up question when a respondent gives a low satisfaction score AND indicates that their issue wasn't resolved.
4. Setting up branching between pages
Conditional rules can also help you guide respondents through different parts of a survey.
For example, you might want respondents who report an issue to answer additional questions, while respondents with no issues continue through the standard survey.
Use the Logic tab to configure the conditions and select the appropriate navigation or visibility action available in the rule editor.
5. Editing or disabling rules
To update an existing rule:
Open the Logic tab.
Find the rule you want to change.
Update its conditions or actions.
Click Save.
You can also temporarily disable a rule using its toggle or remove it with the delete icon.
6. Testing your logic
Before publishing, make sure all your rules work as expected.
Click Preview.
Answer the questions that trigger your rules.
Check that the correct questions appear or disappear.
Try different answers to test alternative paths.
Return to the Builder if you need to make changes.
Tip: Start with simple rules and test them individually before combining multiple conditions.
