Learn more about the drag-and-drop interface, toolbox items, and previewing forms.

The Survey Builder makes it easy to create and customize surveys. You can add questions, arrange them in the order you want, adjust their settings, and preview the experience from a respondent's point of view.

1. Accessing the Survey Builder

To get started:

  1. From the Cemantica side menu, go to Settings → Surveys.

  2. Click New Survey to create a survey, or select an existing draft to continue editing it.

  3. Open the Builder tab to start adding and customizing questions.

You can also give your survey a name and add a description to explain its purpose.

2. Get familiar with the Survey Builder

When you open the Builder tab, you'll see three main areas:

  • Question Types (Toolbox): The list of available question and panel types on the left. Choose what you'd like to add to your survey.

  • Design surface: The main area in the center where you build your survey, arrange questions, and edit them directly.

  • Properties panel: The settings panel on the right, where you customize the selected question, panel, or survey.

The Builder also includes tabs for Logic, Translations, and Responses, which you'll use as you configure your survey and collect feedback.

3. Add your first question

To add a question:

  1. In the Builder tab, find the question type you want in the list on the left.

  2. Drag and drop it onto the design surface where you'd like it to appear.

  3. Alternatively, click Add Question to insert a new question.

  4. Select the question to edit its title, answer choices, and other settings.

Additional question types are available in the toolbox. You can use the search field to find a specific type.

5. Edit and organize your questions

Once you've added a question, select it on the design surface to make changes.

You can:

  • Edit the question text directly in the Builder.

  • Update answer choices for questions such as Radio Button Group, Checkboxes, and Dropdown.

  • Mark a question as Required if respondents must answer it.

  • Duplicate a question to create a copy.

  • Delete questions you no longer need.

  • Adjust additional settings in the Properties panel.

You can also use Panels to group related questions together.

If your survey needs multiple pages, click Add Page or manage them under Properties → Pages.

For more details on question settings, validation, and page navigation, see Configuring Questions & Pages.

6. Preview your survey

Before publishing, it's a good idea to test your survey to make sure everything works as expected.

To preview your survey:

  1. Click Preview in the top-right corner of the Survey Builder.

  2. Answer the questions as a respondent would.

  3. Check that the question titles and answer options display correctly.

  4. Test any required fields and validation messages.

  5. Move between pages to check the survey's flow.

  6. Return to the Builder if you need to make changes.

This helps you catch any issues before making your survey available to respondents.
